Draft documentation
This content is a draft version of the SkyBill documentation and is subject to final review. Some information may be incomplete or inaccurate. Features, terminology, and procedures may change before the official release.

Resources represent the different types of utilities you provide, such as electricity, water, or heat. You need to create resources before you start setting up tariffs. The company focused on electricity supply needs only one resource, while a multi-utility company needs to set up several resources.

To create a resource

  1. Select Search (Alt+Q) Lightbulb that opens the Tell Me feature. in the upper-right corner, enter Resources, and then choose the related link.

  2. Select New, and then on the Resource Card page, on the General FastTab, configure the fields as described in the following table.

    Field Description
No. Enter a unique identifier for the resource.
Name Provide a clear name that describes the resource (for example, Electricity, Water, or Heat).
    Type Choose Machine.
Base Unit of Measure Choose the unit of measure that applies to the resource.
  3. On the Invoicing FastTab, set the Gen. Prod. Posting Group and VAT Prod. Posting Group fields to define how transactions for this resource are posted to the general ledger. To learn more about posting groups, go to Set up general posting groups.

How resources connect SkyBill to Business Central

The primary reason for assigning a resource to each tariff line is to ensure seamless integration between SkyBill and Dynamics 365 Business Central. Both resources and sales invoices are standard features of Dynamics 365 Business Central. By using these features, SkyBill connects its processes with Business Central's functionality. In SkyBill, resources represent the services you sell to your customers, such as gas, water, or electricity. These resources act as a bridge between SkyBill and Business Central. When you create a sales invoice, Business Central uses the resources assigned to SkyBill tariff lines to generate the corresponding invoice lines. To learn more about how to apply a resource to the tariff line, go to the To create and configure tariff lines.

Note

When you create a tariff line, you need to specify a resource for each line. This can be gas, water, or electricity, depending on your setup. When you create a meter or a meter point, you select a type for it. The type of meter point can also be gas, water, or electricity. Keep in mind that these two lists are independent. The list of resources used on the tariff lines is the one you set up manually before you start creating tariffs. The list of types that you can select on the meter or meter point is predefined by SkyBill and cannot be changed. Learn more about applying a resource type in the tariff lines and about selecting meter type when creating a new meter articles.
